In keeping with the tradition of LGBTLOL, the number of yearly applicants accepted is based on the generosity of sponsor support. Unlike many festivals, every LGBTLOL performer is paid for their time and talent on stage. Our funds are generated from partner contributions, general fundraising, and applicant fees. This money pays performers, reinvests in the festival at-large, and supports local non-profit groups (like Covenant House New Orleans) that support LGBTQIA+ youth. While we wish we could accept every applicant, we can only accept those we can pay; which means the performer number is flexible year-to-year, depending on funds raised.
